I love what I get to do for a living! Taking beautiful photographs and creating something meaningful for my clients is one of the biggest reason’s I decided to do what I do. Watching peoples faces light up, and love their images as much as I do is payment enough. But recently, I photographed a beautiful wedding in Charleston, West Virginia and discovered another reason I love my job.
April and Alex’s wedding was one of the most joyful experiences I have been able to be a part of in recent memory. There was so much love and happiness shared between both of the family’s for April and Alex as they said “I do.” As I watched reactions and captured little memories of their special day, I found myself swept up in the moment partaking in this couples joy and watching two friends of mine creating a new chapter together. For me it wasn’t just a job to show up to and complete, but an opportunity to document my friends wedding day. I realized that this was one of the greatest blessings of being a photographer, being able to create friendships and to celebrate with people on their happiest days.
Alex’s family flew in all the way from California and several other people traveled in from different places just for their big day. Once the 30th rolled around the weather was anything but perfect! The sun never came out, it was freezing, and it rained almost all day, but the energy and excitement was never dampened. Everyone was bursting with anticipation, and the day worked out seamlessly. I brought in some extra studio gear, and we set up a portrait studio in the church just in case the rain wouldn’t stop. Fortunately, we got the best of both world’s! The rain quit just long enough for us to head outside into the misty forest.
The weather had no effect on the utter joy that was felt throughout the evening. Their closest friends and family were all gathered around a cozy fireplace as they celebrated April and Alex’s new union. Heartfelt speeches were made and laughter filled the room. Their wedding day will be remembered for a lifetime to come, and I am so happy I got to be a part of it.
