I was so EXCITED when I hung up the phone after speaking with Meredith about her upcoming engagement photo shoot! Meredith told me all about what she had in mind for her images, and had the perfect dress picked out. It would match her location of choice perfectly . . . the West Virginia State Capitol. I am pretty sure I had a little excited squeal come out when I heard that! Recently, I have felt so much inspiration when I see big white columns, grand steps, and intricate architecture, and I was happy Meredith and Joe shared that vision with me. They also told me that they were planning a New Years inspired wedding, and my mind immediately went to all things sparkly and glittery. I told her my idea of incorporating their theme, and by that time we were both giddy with anticipation!
Before any photo shoot, I always scout out my locations to get a feel for the space and to see how the light will be. I was driving down the boulevard and looked at the capitol when my excitement faded into pure panic! The entire front of the capitol including the dreamy white columns and grand steps were CLOSED OFF. I was so disappointed, but then I remembered there was a back. I rushed to the parking spot and ran straight to the back of the capitol. Thankfully my smile returned when I found out that was an even BETTER spot! I had to get what Meredith envisioned, and we were well on our way to making it reality.
When they arrived for their session, I had the chance to sit down and learn a little more about each of them, how they met, and could see why they make such a great pair. They were both so kind to one another and I could tell they lift the other one up. It was easy to capture sweet moments between them because it all came so naturally. Joe and Meredith were both so willing to go along with my ideas, and eager to accept direction. It was a complete dream getting to photograph such a gorgeous couple!
By the end of the session, we were all laughing, sweating and excited about the images we captured. It was hard to narrow down the images, but I am thrilled to share their collection with you. Maybe you can even pick up some inspiration of your own! I really love working with the couples that come my way. I never get tired of learning about their “vision” and then making that a reality for them. So what would your dream engagement session look like? Let me know in the comments below, or send an email my way to set up your consultation.
ALL MY DREAMS OF GLITTER CAME TRUE. . .
The studio was covered with glitter, confetti, and paper shreds but it was SO WORTH IT. I loved how their New Years Eve images came out, and we had a blast shooting them. I looked crazy behind the scenes while I threw glitter in front of the camera, repeatedly yelling “Happy New Year” while simultaneously coaching them through poses, and tried to capture the timing of the confetti falling just right. I am pretty sure some of their smiles may have been because of how ridiculous I looked, but hey it’s always worth it!
I HAVE TO GIVE JOE A SHOUTOUT HERE!
He wore a three piece suit in the middle of summer when it was 90 degrees just to compliment Meredith’s classic black dress. He never complained, and I must say they both looked perfect!
I am so excited to watch these two say “I do.” Thank you to Joe and Meredith for allowing me honor of working with such a fantastic couple! I can’t wait for 2021!
